While driving south of Kalispell on U.S. 93 you have probably noticed a handful of new buildings and businesses. Among those, one stands out and catches your eye - Jackola Architecture and Engineering, PC. If you think the exterior of the building is unique - you wouldn't believe what's in store inside.
The design and construction of the new office building was, of course, handled by Jackola themselves. Construction began in December, 2006 and was completed this summer. "Thank you to the entire design and construction team, working together to build this building," said Thor Jackola, President of Jackola Architecture and Engineering, PC. The building has a natural theme of movement with the garden walls integrating the building with the landscape. The 6,000 square-foot single story commercial building functions with state-of-the-art energy conservation. The building design incorporated ground source heating and cooling, energy recovery on building ventilation, and principled use of natural lighting.
This was a fast track project. Jackola had been on a month-to-month lease as they were planning to build in 2007. At the end of 2006 they learned they would have to be in a new location by July 2007, which was significantly sooner than anticipated. They pulled together to create a unique design while maintaining operations for clients. "It was a fast-paced, exciting time. Everyone pulled together to create a beautiful building, working above and beyond expectations. This was a groundbreaking experience for us, being owner, designer and contractor to meet the challenging deadline with a quality building," explained Thor. It was an interesting process and a new one for the company in several ways. It marks the first time that Jackola has been in its own location. They were also the architect and engineer of record at their previous address in the Southfield Tower. However, when it became clear that the office was expanding beyond the space Jackola was occupying, the company had to address its options. "We discussed remodeling an existing space, looking for tenants in another larger building or building our own office. When we found out we would need to be in a new location in July, we made the decision to build.
We're a close knit company." Thor related. "Good communication served us well in the design and construction process. It was a new and positive experience for our design team; everyone had personal input, as we were in the unique position of being both client and designer as well as contractor. Every one of us has something that we uniquely contributed to the building, and that makes it truly ours." |
