Kalispell Regional Healthcare and the treatment center staff requested the design of the $3.5M, 10,000 SF Cancer Treatment Center to be patient-based. The design features patient arrival to a welcoming, naturally day lit waiting room, followed by open and naturally lit corridors and rooms for diagnostics and treatment. Additionally, restful colors for carpet and wall coverings were chosen. The exterior concept is in keeping with the greater KRH complex and carefully integrated with the hospital in both material and style.
With the required state of the art radiation treatment technology and highly technical equipment, close attention to detail throughout design and construction was required. Mechanically and electrically there was a tremendous amount of intricate design and coordination, along with special equipment requirements such as temperature and humidity control for proper operation of the radiation-emitting equipment.
The end result was a project which was delivered on time, in-budget and met the needs of the client and patients. This project was both successful and rewarding, and was awarded the best institutional project for the year 2003 by the Montana Contractors Association.
