Located in the medical community of Buffalo Commons, the Neuroscience & Spine Institute is three floors and 15,144 SF of medical space including a six room sleep lab on the first floor. The owners requested a design that would be functional and fit their budget while portraying aesthetics that reflect their state of the art disciplines as well as their enjoyment of the mountains and barren high country.
The project was based on a theme of simple materials forming a transition between nature and architecture. The materials; concrete masonry units, wood and glass, weave throughout the project. They tie traditional and modern architectural elements, creating a building and site that have one coherent composition.
Because of the sensitive equipment used on this project, there were many special engineering as well as architectural design considerations, with unique construction detailing. Sound and light considerations were important with a physical therapy office located above the sleep labs.
