As part of an overall Health Education Center master plan at Salish Kootenai College, Jackola completed a 36,000 SF addition to the previously constructed 4,000 SF campus fitness center. Jackola performed all survey, civil engineering, architecture, interior design, structural engineering, and mechanical engineering for the project.
Attached to the Fitness Center, the $5.4M Joe McDonald Health Education Center features a full size NCAA gymnasium with associated locker rooms and restrooms, seating for 2300, an elevated perimeter running track, full demonstration kitchen, support office space and an assembly instructional area.
The building systems feature air to air heat pumps with energy recovery ventilation, efficient fluorescent hi-bay lighting with variable lighting levels in the gymnasium, locally sourced pre-cast concrete and masonry structure, and natural daylighting features.
Integration of the building with the campus master plan from both an aesthetic as well as circulation standpoint was important. The same site also now houses the Jackola designed Performing Arts Center creating a common area for extra-curricular activity.
